I’m with you on the ‘British-ness’ of tension as opposed to gauge. If you look at the 1940s patterns here:
http://www.vam.ac.uk/collections/fashion/knitting/1940s/index.html
you’ll see the term used extensively. We tend to refer to a (US) gauge swatch as a ‘tension square’.

In my Australian pattern books it suggests I knit a tension square before beginning anything.

I’ve just caught up on all the shows at once (well nearly) doing a lino cut (I can’t knit and listen to talking - don’t know why!). Good luck with the new jobs and I look forward to any new podcasts you might produce in October (?).
PS DID you get any responses about the ‘Charmed’ knits book. I have it if you did not and can give the info if needed.
